Filter a MIDI file before playing it
Quite often, a midi file has multiple channels where, typically, each channel has a different instrument. Usually the channels have parallel musical events. Consequently, if fingerings for all these events are animated on the oud, the user may get overwhelmed and confused by the many notes being animated at the same time. This would defeat the purpose of the fingering-animation feature.

The user can take better advantage of the fingering animation feature by selecting fewer channels for animation. And because The Oud Tutor provides separate filtering of sound and animation, the user can still listen to more channels than animated.

Take advantage of the octave-shift feature
Sometimes, a MIDI file might have music that goes below or above the tuning range of the oud. One way to get the music to be played in the oud tuning range is to shift its playback up or down. Another way is to shift the oud tuning itself.

Install a sound card
Although The Oud Tutor works fine with an on-motherboard audio controller, the sound and the timing will be much better if there is a sound card. Even the very cheapest sound card will perform better than the on-motherboard audio controller.
