FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
I have no sound; what could be the
reason?
There are many possible reasons.
First, make sure your PC has a sound card (or an on-motherboard
audio controller) and properly connected speakers.
If this is the case and you still have no sound, check that you are using a
functioning MIDI device. To do that, select Select/Test Midi Device... from
the Options menu. Then, click the test button for each device in the list until
one of them produces a sound, then click "OK".
If you still have no sound, try downloading a MIDI file and playing it using MS
Media Player. If no sound is produced, there is likely a problem in your MIDI
device or your sound card.
There is a noticeable sound delay; what
could be the reason?
Most likely, you are using an on-motherboard audio controller which does not
have a hardware MIDI synthesizer. Such on-motherboard audio controller usually
uses a software MIDI synthesizer, like "Microsoft GS Wavetable" which is part
of Windows.
A software MIDI synthesizer is good enough for playing music files. However,
it has a high latency and might be unsuitable for real-time playing via the
keyboard.
You could install a SoundBlaster type card. Even the very cheapest card will
perform well.
Why are many oud
positions fingered
together when I play a MIDI file?
The MIDI file you are playing has multiple channels, each with its musical
notes. The Oud Tutor shows all the simultaneously played notes.
To have intelligible fingering animation,
filter the MIDI file so that fewer channels (preferably, just one) are
animated.
